xAI just gave it native OAuth.

Starting May 15, your SuperGrok or X Premium subscription works inside Hermes with a single login. No API key. No separate billing. No token management.

This changes the economics of agent compute.

Before OAuth, running Hermes with Grok meant generating an xAI API key, managing billing separately, and hoping the integration stayed current. Now you authenticate once and your existing subscription covers agent usage.

The integration goes deeper than a provider checkbox.

Hermes v0.14.0 added Grok as a SuperGrok OAuth provider with grok-4.3 bumped to a 1M context window. The Grok skill was merged May 29 — the third coding-agent orchestrator alongside Codex and Claude Code. Hermes can now delegate coding tasks to Grok Build's CLI, run headless one-shots, spawn parallel worktrees, and post PR reviews.

But the real play is `hermes proxy`.

It exposes any OAuth-authed provider — including SuperGrok — as an OpenAI-compatible local endpoint. Aider, Cline, Codex CLI, and Continue can now use Grok through your existing subscription without native xAI integration on their end.

xAI is treating open-source agents as a distribution channel, not an afterthought. They are not building a closed ecosystem. They are embedding into the agents developers already use.

This puts pressure on Anthropic and OpenAI. Both offer OAuth for their own platforms. xAI is doing the opposite — meeting developers where they work.
