Oracle just fired 500 people in Romania. Revenue is up. They're still cutting.

Oracle started sending "COLLECTIVE DISMISSAL" emails to 500 Romanian employees on June 25.

This is the second round in under a year. 400 went in late 2025. Now another 500 — out of a 4,000-person Romanian operation.

Here's what makes this different from the headline numbers you've already seen.

Oracle's Romanian entities booked €354.8 million in revenue last year. Up 7.5%. They also posted a combined net loss of 34.8 million lei.

Revenue grew. Headcount is not.

A former employee told Ziarul Financiar the names were drawn up in the spring. This was decided last fiscal year. And more adjustments may follow.

Globally, Oracle went from 162,000 to 141,000 employees in 12 months. That's 21,000 jobs — 13% of the workforce — while spending $55.7 billion on data centers.

The SEC filing is the most candid document in enterprise tech right now. Oracle told regulators in plain language that AI adoption has resulted, and may continue to result, in workforce reductions.

Romania built its tech economy on exactly the work AI reaches first — engineering, support, cloud infrastructure. Those are the functions Oracle is automating.
