The company that sells workflow automation to enterprises just used its own automation to eliminate its own people.

WARN Act filings in California show 117 positions cut across Santa Clara and San Diego. Half were directors, senior managers, and staff engineers. The most experienced people in the room.

Meanwhile ServiceNow rolled out its Autonomous Workforce platform, Moveworks integration, and AI Control Tower — products explicitly designed to replace the exact tasks these employees were performing.

The company's own statement is the tell: "Our platform is generating real AI efficiencies inside our own business. We are actively investing in and hiring for the AI-focused skills this era demands, while managing headcount with discipline."

Translation: the software you sell to automate other companies' work just automated your own workforce.

This is the new corporate playbook. Companies aren't cutting because revenue is down. ServiceNow's stock is strong. They're cutting because AI makes the unit economics better with fewer people.
