The EU just rewrote your AI compliance deadline. August 2 is still live.

The EU AI Act's high-risk deadline just moved from August 2, 2026 to December 2, 2027.

That's 16 extra months.

But here is what most CISOs missed: Article 50 transparency duties still apply August 2, 2026. That is three days from now.

The Digital Omnibus was published in the Official Journal on July 24 as Regulation (EU) 2026/1744. It entered into force on July 27.

What changed:
- Standalone high-risk systems (Annex III): December 2, 2027
- Embedded systems (Annex I): August 2, 2028
- Transparency obligations: August 2, 2026

What did not change:
- Prohibited practices: already enforceable since February 2025
- GPAI model obligations: already in force since August 2025
- Article 50 transparency: August 2, 2026

The fines are still real. Up to 35 million euros or 7% of global turnover for prohibited practices. Up to 15 million euros or 3% for high-risk violations.

The Omnibus also introduced a new prohibition: AI systems generating non-consensual intimate imagery are banned effective December 2026.

If you paused compliance work waiting for clarity, you just got clarity. Use the 16 months to build governance infrastructure, not to delay.

But audit your transparency obligations today. August 2 is three days away.
