Expedia's CPO and CTO leaked their own playbook.

An internal memo obtained by GeekWire says8 VPs and SVPs are out. Including Sachin Singh, SVP of book-to-trip technology. Seven other VPs across payments, fraud, and self-service. Gone.

Their reason: "AI has radically changed what's possible. Work that once took weeks increasingly happens in hours."

This isn't a layoff. This is a structural purge of coordination layers.

Expedia is replacing hierarchy with "small end-to-end squads with clear ownership." They're consolidating data, AI, and agentic platforms under one chief AI officer. They're pushing engineering directly under brand leaders.

The people who used to sit between teams and make decisions? AI handles that now. The managers who translated between product and engineering? Squads with AI copilots don't need them.

This is the first大规模executive restructure explicitly tied to AI compressing decision cycles. Not replacing workers. Replacing the people who coordinated workers.

If your org chart has layers whose primary function is coordination between teams, this is your warning. AI doesn't need middlemen to pass context anymore. It reads the context directly.

Audit your leadership structure today. Count the roles whose main job is facilitating communication between other roles. Those roles have an expiration date.
