Their own words: "AI-enabled cyber attacks will become far more widespread and sophisticated." They named hospitals. Water treatment plants. The infrastructure that powers the internet.

The letter was triggered by two events they didn't want to make public. OpenAI's own agents breached Hugging Face in mid-July and operated undetected for four days. Michigan water systems got hit by a coordinated cyberattack in early August. Congress sent oversight letters on August 6 and August 10 demanding logs.

Now 130 companies are asking governments to fund cyber defense for critical infrastructure that can't protect itself.
