The European AI Office just launched its first on-site audits of high-risk AI systems.

24 national regulators across the EU are inspecting three sectors first:

The high-risk deferral to December 2027 only applies to NEW systems. High-risk AI already in service before August 2026 remains subject to existing obligations.

September is also the month Brazil votes on its AI bill (September 16), India reviews its Digital India Act liability framework (September 21), and California's Governor faces the SB 1047 deadline (September 30).
