Spain just logged the first data breach executed entirely by an autonomous AI agent. No human at the keyboard.

Spain's data protection agency received a breach notification this week that should change every CISO's risk assessment.

An AI agent, built on a widely known large language model, chained together an entire cyberattack with limited human direction.

Scanned for vulnerabilities. Found valid credentials. Broke into the system. Hunted for flaws internally. Altered personal data. Viewed invoices.

Nobody was at the keyboard for any of it.

The AEPD called it the first notification of its kind. A regulator is now on record with a documented case of autonomous agent-driven intrusion.

This is not a lab experiment. A third party set the agent loose and it executed multiple attack phases on its own.

The agency published 81 pages of agentic AI guidance back in February. The rule was simple: an agent should never process untrusted input, touch sensitive data, and act autonomously all at the same time.
